PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to adequately arrange a catheter at the wall of the right atrium by curving the flexible intermediate part of the catheter and manoeuvering the catheter in such a manner that the distal part of the placed catheter is brought into contact with the atrioventricular septum dividing the right atrium and the left atrium of the patient. SOLUTION: Tensile force is acted on a steering wire (by rotating, for example, the knob 32 of a control handle 24) to bend the flexible intermediate part 44 at a point 46 and to align the distal part 40 nearly to the longitudinal axis of a shaft 30, by which the distal part 40 is advanced nearly toward the right atrium. When a proximal part enters the right atrium, the tensile force is released. When the catheter 20 is put into a relaxed state, a proximal part 48, an intermediate part 44 and the distal part 40 take the form of nearly a J shape, by which the distal part 40 is oriented more toward the superior vena cava than the inferior vena cava. The catheter 20 is then advanced to bring the catheter 20 into contact with the atrioventricular septum dividing the right atrium and the left atrium. |
