PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for homopolymerization or copolymerization of a 2-8C alk-1-ene which enables excellent mixing of a transition metal- containing solid catalyst. SOLUTION: A Ziegler-Natta or Metallocene solid catalyst system which contains a transition metal is supplied into a reaction vessel 1 together with at least a portion of a 2-8C alk-1-ene which is metered and supplied into the reaction vessel 1 via one or more pipes 4 and gas-phase polymerization is conducted inside an agitation bed 2 of finely divided polymer, wherein the pipes are protruding perpendicularly or substantially perpendicularly from above into the gaseous space and ending above the pulverulent agitation bed 2.
