PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain a cyclic diketone compound in high selectivity by subjecting a cyclic ketone to an industrially advantageous oxygen oxidation reaction in the presence of a new catalyst system. SOLUTION: This method for producing a cyclic diketone compound of formula I or II (R1 -R10 are each H, an alkyl, an alkylene, an alkinyl, an aryl) comprises oxidizing a ketone of formula III or IV with oxygen in the presence of an oxidation catalyst comprising the salt of a metal belonging to the platinum group and a heterogeneous polyacid or its salt. The metal of the platinum group is Pd, Pt, Rh, etc., and its halide, organic acid salt, inorganic acid salt, etc., are preferable. The heterogenous polyacid or its salt preferably contains at least one of P, Si, Mo and W. The reaction is applied to the oxidation ofα-isophorone into the corresponding 4-oxoisophorone.
