PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reversible recording medium which enables the display of a stable and high-quality image with a sharp contrast and also the simple erasing of the displayed image at a desired time and an image erasing method which enables the simple erasing of the displayed image as well as a device for erasing the displayed image. SOLUTION: An image is formed by causing the permeation, through a thin plate or thin film-like light-scattering porous layer 14A, of a non-volatile transparent substance 18c with a refractive index almost equal to the refractive index of a substance which forms the porous layer 14A. On the other hand, the image is erased by removing the transparent substance 18c from the porous layer 14A. To remove the transparent substance 18c from the porous layer 14A, it is preferable to make the transition of the transparent substance 18c to a transparent substance receptive layer 16B brought into contact tightly with the porous layer 14A. In this case, an electric field may be applied. |
