The invention comprises monoazo pigments of formula wherein R 1 is an ortho-arylene radical, R 2 is an aryl, aralkyl or heterocyclic residue, R 3 is an aryl radical substituted by an acylamino, carboxylic acid amide or urea group and Z is a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkoxy or cyano group. The pigments are prepared by (a) heating a triazinone of formula with an appropriate 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid arylamide or (b) condensing a dicarboxylic acid halide of formula in a molar ratio 1 : 2 with an arylamine yielding the residue R 3 . The pigments may be used to colour lacquers and natural and synthetic resins, in particular polyvinyl chloride foils in orange and red shades. |
