Synthetic polyamide fibres are modified by treating at pH 3-11 at a temperature of from 40‹C to the boiling temperature of the bath with a compound of the formula I in which A 1 is a colourless, aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic radical, W is a residue of an acylating agent carrying an atom or group of atoms capable of reacting with polyamide fibres and R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms, 0.1 to 20% by weight of the polyamide being used. The compound may be applied as a solution or dispersion or in a print paste and the process may start in an acid bath followed by treating in an alkaline bath. In Examples cyanuric chloride derivatives of para-toluene sulphar-amide and parachlorobeneze sulphonamide are used also the -,3 - diohloro quinonalino - 6 -carboxylic acid chloride derivative of para-toluenesulphonamide. |
