A mesh container for bottles, designed e.g. in dimensions corresponding to a pallet, consists of a base (1) in the form of a tray (2) with feet (3) and deployable side walls (5, 6). The bottom of the base has a series of wires (15) fixed across it to wedge the bottom layer of bottles in the container and reduce the stresses on its sides. The wires are in parallel pairs some 2 cm apart, with a gap of about one and a half times that distance between pairs. The wires are welded to the lengthwise wires of the base which are joined directly to the feet.
