The positioning device has units (4,5,8) for alignment of the subject objects (9) relative to a predetermined reference axis of the positioning device. Units (3) are provided for blocking the movement of the alignment units, and measurement units record the position of the objects to be centred. The alignment units consist of at least one positioning plate (6) movable in at least two directions. At least one of the plates is mounted to move freely on ball bearings (2).
