Closing a finished garment at the neck on a flat bed knitter

To close off a finished garment at the neck on a twin-bed flatbed knitter, it is held at the leading bed where, at least in zones, only alternate needles of both beds carry garment stitches. In an initial slide movement direction, such as from left to right, a row of stitches is formed on the leading bed, with a further row of stitches formed on the trailing bed as the slide movement is reversed. The outer stitches of the tubular body section are transferred to the opposite bed, on displacement of at least one needle bed. As the slide is moved from left to right, an additional yarn guide (FF8) is used to form three loops on empty needles (B1-B3) of the leading bed at the body edge. With a slide movement from left to right, a second knitting system transfers the second and third loops (B2,B3) of the stitches (A3) from the leading bed to the trailing bed, and the second system knits a stitch (A2) between the first and second loops on the leading bed and casts off the st itch (a3) hanging on the trailing bed. With a slide movement from right to left, the first system transfers the completed stitch (A2) on the leading bed to the associated needle (a2) of the trailing bed, carrying a previous stitch, and the second system forms a stitch with this needle (a3). On movement from right to left, the yarn guide (FF8) casts off the second loop (B2) at the leading bed and, in the reverse slide movement, the guide (FF8) casts off the third loop (B3) and forms a fourth loop on the next needle but one (B4) on the leading bed. The slide movement from left to right forms a stitch (a3) on the trailing bed and a stitch (A4) on the leading bed. The slide, from right to left, transfers the formed stitch (a3) with the first system from the trailing bed to the needle (A4) of the leading bed with a formed stitch, and a stitch is formed on the needle (A4) with the second system. The yarn guide (FF8), on the same slide direction, forms a stitch on the adjacent needle (B3) to the left and next to the needle (A4) on the leading bed. With a left to right slide movement, the guide (FF8) forms a stitch on the neighbouring needle (B4) of the leading bed, and a further loop on the next needle but one (B5) of the leading bed. In the same direction, the stitch between the formed stitch (B4) and loop (B5) at the leading bed is transferred to the trailing bed and then formed into a stitch with the needle (A4) of the leading bed and the needle (a5) of the trailing bed where it hangs. With a slide movement of right to left, the first system transfers the formed stitch (A4) at the leading bed to the needle (a5) of the trailing bed which has been cleared, and this needle (a5) forms a further stitch. In the same direction, the yard guide (FF8) forms a stitch with the needle (B4) of the leading bed. The first system, with the slide moving in the reverse direction and with the yarn guide (FF8), the loop (B5) is cast off and a further loop (B6) is formed on the next needle but one at the leading bed and, with the second system, a stitch is formed with the needle (a5) of the trailing bed which finally formed a stitch and the needle (A6) between the last stitch (B5) and last loop (B6) on the needle (A6) of the leading bed. Finally, the first system transfers the formed stitch (a5) of the trailing bed to the needle (A6) of the leading bed and, with the second system and the same slide movement direction, the needle (A6) of the leading bed is cast off. In the same slide direction and with the yarn guide (FF8), a stitch is formed with the needle (B5) of the leading needle bed with a further knitting system.
