Topical compsn. contains, apart from a dermatologically acceptable carrier, a benzoic acid deriv. of formula (I) R= 3-11C linear, branched or cyclic satd. aliphatic gp. or 3-17C unsatd. gp. having 1 or more conjugated or unconjugated double bonds, these gps. opt. substd. by 1 or more halo, CF3, OH (free or esterified with 1-6C acid) or COOH (free of esterified with 1-6C alcohol); R'=OH or O.COR1; R1=1-18C opt. unsatd. aliphatic gp. Pref. cpds. have R'=OH and R3=3-11C alkyl, in free acid, salt or esterified form.
