Halo:vinyl:oxy-substituted dioxan derivatives

Halovinyloxy-substituted dioxan derivatives of formula (I) are claimed, in which R = 1-12C alkyl or alkenyl, optionally with one or more CH2 groups replaced by O, CF2 or CH=CH in such a way that 2 oxygen atoms are not directly linked together; X, Y = H, F or Cl; if one of these groups X or Y = H, the other = F or Cl; n = 1, 2 or 3. Also claimed are: (i) a liquid crystal (LC) medium with at least two LC components, at least one of which is a compound (I); and (ii) electro-optical displays containing such a medium.
