The method involves combining the process signals (PS) with a data model (D) characteristic of the system (1). Depending on a system operating state and/or a model operating state, reference (V1-V6) is then automatically made to corresp. model information in memory and the information (I) output. Reference is made to further information depending on the information which is output. The information can be delivered to the operator as an operating instruction.
