A cell of a cushion or quilt consists of an inner sheath (20) which encloses a cavity (16) and of an outer sheath (22) which encloses the inner sheath (20). The cell is closed by a seam (24) which extends through both sheaths. The inner sheath (20) is very air-permeable but substantially tight to small particles, such as allergens, with an order of magnitude from about 0.5 mu to about 3 mu . The outer sheath (22) is made of a light cotton fabric and is also highly permeable to air. The cell can be washed as a whole, i.e. with its filling (14), inner sheath (20) and outer sheath (22). The air throughflow resistance (RNL) of the seams is large in comparison with the sum of the air throughflow resistances (RJH, RAH) of the inner sheath (20) and outer sheath (22) which follow each other in the air flow direction.
