Rocker arm for operating gas exchange valve in internal combustion engine

The rocker arm (1) is controlled by a cam (2) having a single lift contour by a bearing member (7) which operates with at least one longitudinal guide (8) running approx. parallel to the axial line of the gas exchange valve (3). The rocker arm has a coupling member (15) which are coupled with the longitudinal guide in a first coupling stage (15b) of the bearing member's recessed bearing block (9). In a second coupling stage (15c), the bearing block is connected to rocker arm by the coupling member. Both axial movements of the longitudinal guide are effected by a complete lift of the cam. The opening cross-section of the gas exchange valve during lifting is smaller than in the first coupling stage.
