A method for carrying out the maintenance of a vehicle, wherein data on the mechanical load to which the vehicle and/or components thereof are subjected during use of the vehicle are registered by means of a registration apparatus present in the vehicle. The data are used for establishing the condition of the vehicle. The data are registered during a substantially uninterrupted period of at least one month. By means of the registration apparatus data can be recorded on certain moments, such as speed of the vehicle, the manner of starting and driving off following a period of rest, the number of gear changes or the number of times the brakes are used, etc.
