A radio-frequency amplifier circuit comprises a radio-frequency amplifier (10) having a linearisation circuit (14) to substantially linearise the amplifier over a linear operating range. A pre-processing circuit (20) has its output coupled to the input of the radio-frequency amplifier and is operative to clip the magnitude of the input signal to a predetermined value at the top of the linear operating range of the radio-frequency amplifier. This reduces the phase distortion which takes place when the input signal crosses over into the non-linear region above the linear operating range of the RF amplifier. <IMAGE>
