A living polymer is terminated by contact with a cyclic amine of formula (I). Z = halo; R1 = a 1-12C organic group or a bridging bond; R2 = H, a 1-12C organic group or a bridging bond; R3 = H or a 1-12C organic group; a = 4-16; b = 0-12. (I) optionally includes a bridge having 0-6 C between the bridging ring members. (I) is preferably a tetrahydroazepine derivative, azatridecane derivative, pyrrolidine derivative, piperidine derivative, azabicyclooctane derivative or azabicyclononane derivative, especially 2-(2-chloroethyl)-1-methylpyrrolidine or 3-(chloroethyl)-1-methylpiperidine.
