The amplification circuit for amplifying a number of wavelength-division-multiplexed signals in a fiber-optic network, having a number of links for simultaneously bidirectionally propagating the number of signals. The circuit comprises an optical amplifier. Frequency router circuitry is coupled to a first portion of the network, to the amplifier, and to a second portion of the network. The frequency router circuitry receives from the first portion of the network a first sub-number of the signals and receives from the second portion of the network a second sub-number of the signals, multiplexes the two sub-numbers of the signals, and routes the multiplexed signals to the amplifier. The amplifier amplifies the multiplexed signals. The frequency router circuitry receives from the amplifier the amplified sub-numbers of the signals, demultiplexes them and routes the amplified first sub-number of the signals to the second portion of the network, and routes the amplified second sub-number of the signals to the first portion of the network.
