[Also in Division Fl] A device for aerating liquids comprises a chamber 11 which is closed at the top and open at the bottom, a pipe 17 opening into the chamber for supply of air thereto, and a passage 14, which has an end 15 opening into an upper part of the chamber and which extends to the bottom of the chamber and then upwardly to a point outside the chamber above the level of end 15. The chamber may be encased by a casing 12 filled with ballast 13 to ensure that the device remains immersed in the liquid which is aerated. The air feed pipe 17 may also serve as a clearing rod guiding pipe. In use, air is fed to chamber 11 so as to displace the liquid in the chamber and passage 14 to a level 5. When this level is reached, air escapes in the form of a bubble through the outlet 16 of the passage. As the air vents from the chamber and passage, further liquid enters through the bottom 11a and the cycle is repeated. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the air feed pipe is arranged to enter the top of the chamber, and a clearing rod guiding pipe is arranged parallel to the air feed pipe above the outlet of the passage.</p> |
