[Also in Division E2] A safety seat belt assembly comprises a two-part buckle of which one part, to which a strap 13 forming lap and diagonal belts are connected, is formed with an elongated shank 11 terminating in a tapered portion 14 leading to a hemispherical head 15 providing a shoulder 16, and the second part, which is securable to a floor or shaft tunnel of a vehicle, has a rigid sleeve 17 in which the shank 11 is received and a spring pressed latch member 23 adapted to engage the shoulder when the shank is inserted in the sleeve. The sleeve is mounted in a moulded plastics housing 18 and the latch member moves between parallel flanges on the sleeve, rocking about opposed lugs on the latch member engaged in sector-shaped openings in the flanges. The sleeve is secured to an anchoring bolt 19 by a pin 21. |
