Process for obtaining polyarylketones with naphthalene groups in the form of particles

Process for obtaining polyarylketones with naphthalene groups in the form of particles. A new process for the synthesis of polyarylketones with naphthalene groups in the form of particles is described. The method offers two alternatives: a) electrophilic Friedel-Crafts polycondensation of the naphthalene carboxylic acid dichloride with aromatic compounds having an activated hydrogen (a hydrogen which can be substituted under electrophilic reaction conditions), b) polycondensation of the hydrocarbon anhydride chlorides which contain naphthalene. The electrophilic polycondensation is performed in the presence of AlCl3 as catalyst using chlorinated solvents of the aromatic or aliphatic type. Dispersion of the polymer-catalyst complex in the solvent takes place during the polycondensation. This complex is separated from the reaction medium by filtration and by washing the precipitate with alcohol and acetone with subsequent drying to yield the particles of (pure) polymer directly. <IMAGE>
