摘要 A sintered material containing cubic boron nitride and titanium aluminum nitride of the form Ti (1-x) Al x N (where x lies in the range 0.05-0.70). The titanium aluminium nitride forms a B1 cubic structure similar to that of TiN, but has greater hardness and oxidation resistance. The material may be made by sintering a mixture of powdered cubic boron nitride and powdered titanium aluminum nitride, by sintering titanium aluminium nitride coated cubic boron nitride particles or by sintering a mixture of coated particless and titanium aluminum nitride powder. In all of the above cases the material may include 0.2-11.1 % by volume of titanium oxide and/or alumina. The sintered material can be used as a cutting tool to cut spheroidal graphite cast iron.
