PRODUCTION OF CYCLOPROPANEMETHANOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain cyclopropanemethanol that is useful as a starting substance for medicines in high selectivity and high yield by catalytically hydrogenating a cyclopropanecarbaldehyde over a ruthenium-containing catalyst. SOLUTION: Cyclopropanecarbaldehyde is hydrogenated in the presence of a ruthenium-containing catalyst such as ruthenium on carbon or ruthenium on diatomite (preferably in an amount of 0.005-1wt.% based on the reaction mixture) at 60-150 deg.C to give the objective cyclopropanemethanol.
