PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain a fluorine-containing ether that is useful in solvent, cosmetic, surface treating agent and the like in high yield by reaction of a specific hydroxy compound with a carbonyl compound in the presence of a catalyst in a hydrogen atmosphere. SOLUTION: A hydroxy compound, for example, a compound of formula I (R1 is H, a 1-40C alkyl, alkenyl, a 3-12C cycloalkyl or a groups formed by substituting one or two H atoms in these groups with fluorine atoms; A is a 2-12C alkylene; n is 0-500) is allowed to react with a carbonyl compound, for example, a compound (polymer) represented by formula II (R2 and R3 are each H, a 1-20C alkyl, alkenyl, or a fluorine substituted group prepared by substituting one or more H atoms in these groups with F atoms) (for example, a 3-19C chain ketone) in the presence of a catalyst such as a palladium catalyst in a hydrogen atmosphere to prepare an ether. In this case, at least one of fluorine-substituted hydroxy compounds and/or carbonyl compounds is used as a raw material to give the objective a fluorine-containing ether. |
