PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain new conformation isomers of cyclic phenol sulfide tetrakis(ethoxycarobonylmethylether) that has a cyclic bond formed by four phenol skeletons connected with S atoms, and can become a receptor of specific metals, etc. SOLUTION: This conformation isomer, which is any conformation isomer of a cone type of formula I (Y is H, a hydrocarbon or a halogenated hydrocarbon), partial cone type of formula II, 1,3-alternate type of formula III and 1,2-alternate type of formula IV of cyclic phenol sulfide tetrakis(ethoxy carbonylmethyether), is obtained by making a cyclic phenol sulfide of formula V react with a halogenated ethyl acetate in the presence of an alkali metal reagent. The presence of Na2 CO3 as the alkali metal reagent in the above reaction produces the cone type of the conformation isomer, K2 CO3 the partial cone type, and Cs2 CO3 1,3-alternate type, thus providing the objective compound useful as a receptor of specific metals selectively and easily. |
