PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel injector for an engine which, when fuel that has entered its spring chamber is excessively discharged therefrom, absorbs part of the discharged fuel through the compression of its air chamber adjoining the spring chamber to ensure a pressure increase for fuel by means of a pressure intensifying piston. SOLUTION: An annular chamber 200 defined around a smallerdiameter part 24 in a pressure-intensifying piston 9 includes a spring chamber 30 in which a return spring 17 is disposed and an air chamber 208 in which a set spring 209 is disposed, which are both separated from each other by means of a separator piston 207. When the pressure of fuel in the spring chamber 30 rises at pressure increase for rapid acceleration after a longer period of idling and the like, the separator piston 207 is correspondingly displaced to compress the air chamber 208. This permits the work of the pressure-intensifying piston 9 to be utilized for pressure increase rather than fuel discharge to thereby ensure a target quantity of fuel injected. |
