[Also in Division A4] A flexible rubber floor mat comprises a base 22 having uniform cylindrical protuberances 21, strips 24 of soft rubber being adhered or vulcanized to the undersurface of the base to provide a series of areas of greater and lesser resilient resistance to load separated by areas of intermediate resilient resistance to load so that at each change of foot position of a person walking on the mat the foot is moved through an angle of not more than 5 degrees to the horizontal to alleviate strain in the leg muscles. In modifications, the strips are moulded integrally with the base or are formed by a layer having an integral border and apertures, which may be filled with soft rubber, the layer being adhered or retained by friction beneath the base, which may be of uniform thickness. In further modifications, the cylindrical protuberances are of a variety of lengths or thicknesses and are arranged in areas to provide the variation in resilient resistance, or a covering for a larger floor area comprises mat sections 57 having protuberances of varied length or thickness and an offset portion forming downwardly or upwardly facing flanges 60, 61 which are overlapped when the mat sections are fitted together and surrounded by a complementarily flanged frame 62, 64 which may be moulded and provided with upwardly extending protuberances</p> |
