PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound useful as an active ingredient for herbicides. SOLUTION: This ketonitrile-based compound is represented by formula I [X is N(R1 )R2 , SR3 or OR4 ; Y is a halogen, an alkyl, etc.; R1 and R2 are each H, an alkyl, etc.; R3 is an alkyl, an alkenyl, etc.; R4 is an alkyl, an alkenyl, etc.; (n) is an integer of 1-5; (m) is an integer of 3-5], e.g. 2-cyano-3-cyclopropyl-3- dimethylamino-1-(2-methylsullfonyl-4-trifluoromethylphenyl)prop-2-ene- 1-one.
