CORDIERITE HONEYCOMB STRUCTURAL BODY AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cordierite honeycomb structural body capable of reducing the heat capacity by making film thin with high strength, low in coefficient of thermal expansion and excellent in thermal shock resistance. SOLUTION: The structural body is produced by using cordierite raw materials such as a talk having >7μm to <=20μm center particle diameter and containing <=0.2wt.% CaO and a kaoline or the like having <=1μm center particle diameter as a starting raw material of the cordierite honeycomb structural body. And the thin wall honeycomb structural body having high strength and excellent thermal shock resistance is obtained by forming the starting materials so as to have <=130μm cell wall thickness and firing.
