The invention relates to a method for the preparation ofmenthylisovalerate (methyl ester of isovalerianic acid) which isone of the active ingredients of the medicamentous preparationValidol having the formulaThe methylisovalerate is produced by reaction between L-(-), D-(+)or D,L menthol and isovalerianic acid in a medium of inert solventin the presence of catalyst having general formulaR-SO3Hwhere R can mean alkyl, halogenalkyl and aryl radical or inertpolymer carrier. The water separated during the reaction isremoved from the reaction by physicochemical manner, e.g. byblowing with inert gas (nitrogen, argon), drying by means ofmolecular sieve, azeotropic distillation, evaporation by microwaveradiation, and others. The end product produced has increasesyield and purity. It easily reacts chemically, and whenconventional equipment is used it becomes easily applied underindustrial conditions.
