PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently remove foreign matters clogged at narrow parts such as elbow parts, restriction nozzle parts and the like for pipes. SOLUTION: The foreign matter removal device A mounted to the tip end of a lifting wire is inserted into the narrow part of a pipe 1 where foreign matters are clogged, by winding the wire out by a take-up machine provided for the outside of the pipe 1. A flexible tube 16 is curved with a positioning mechanism 6 driven so as to allow pawls 15 to be approached to the foreign matters, and the foreign matters are thereby gripped by closing the pawls 15 with a foreign matter holding jig driven. Subsequently the foreign matter removal device A is taken out of the pipe so as to allow the foreign matters to be thereby removed.
