PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a circuit breaker which does not turn off a main circuit, prevents a moving contact from the contact with a component arranged on the upper part of the moving contact, and does not generate troubles caused by contact. SOLUTION: A circuit breaker 1 turns on and off a main circuit in such a way that a moving contact piece 3 is pivoted to a crossbar 2 with a pivoting pin 4, the moving contact piece 4 is based in the direction being pressed against a fixed contact piece 6 on the pivoting pin 4, with a pressing spring 5 passed through the pivoting pin 4, a fixed contact 6a formed in the fixed contact piece 6 and a moving contact 3a formed in the moving contact piece 3 are opened or closed by the vertical motion of a crossbar 2. The gap between the crossbar 2 and the moving contact piece 3 is narrow, and the rotating distance of the moving contact piece 3 is short. When the main circuit is turned off or tripped by the generation of troubles, although the moving contact piece 3 is rotated in the arrow direction on the pivot pin 4, a component 7 arranged in the upper part of the moving contact piece 3 does not come in contact with the moving contact 3 since the rotation distance of the moving contact distance is short.
