PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor having high sensitivity in any of positive electrification and negative electrification and excellent in repetitive characteristics by forming a photosensitive layer contg. a specified bisazo compd. as an electric charge generating material on an electricaly conductive substrate. SOLUTION: A photosensitive layer consisting of an electric charge generating layer based on an electric charge generating material made of a bisazo compd. represented by the formula and an electric charge transferring layer contg. an electric charge transferring material in a laminated state is formed on an electrically conductive substrate. In the formula, A is a residue of a coupler and each of R<1> and R<2> is H, halogen, alkyl or optionally substd. aryl. The electric charge generating layer is required only to have electric charge generating function and the thickness of the layer depends on the extinction coefft. of the electric charge generating material but is usually <=5μm. An electric charge transferring material may further be incorporated into the electric charge generating layer.
