The invention refers to a simple hybrid of maize (Zea mays L. convar. dentiformis) called Fundulea 340 (HSF 5462-84), obtained through the crossbreeding of two proprietary inbred lines according to the formula Lc.432 x Lc.411, recommended for cultivation in irrigated or non-irrigated crop, in the southern and western plains of the country and in their neighbouring hill regions with suitable temperature conditions, and is used for animal fodder. The plants are 264 cm high, with 19...21 leaves and yellow-greenish anthers and stigmas. The cob is 19.2 cm long and 4.4 cm thick has a cylinder shape, red rachis, 16 rows of grain, 238 g weight and a grain production of 79...80 percent. The grains are toothed and glossy, have a prism shape, and the weight of 1000 grains is 273 g. The plant has good resistance to low temperatures, drought and intense heat, falling and breaking of the stalks, fusarium attacks on the stalk and leaves, average resistance to helmintosporium and corn blight (Ustilago maydis), and is resistant to Ostrinia. The vegetation period is 144 days. The grains contain 12.52 percent protein in non-irrigated crop and 11.68 percent in irrigated crop, 71.02 percent starch in non-irrigated crop and 71.55 percent in irrigated crop, and 4.01 percent fat in non-irrigated crop and 4.20 percent in irrigated crop. Grain average production is 8689 kg/hectare in non-irrigated crop and 12250 kg/hectare in irrigated crop in the field regions and 7230 kg/hectare in non-irrigated crop in the hill regions.
