PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distance measuring device of simple configuration which can measure accurately the distance to the chief object to be photographed without brightness influence of the position of the chief object within a photographing picture frame or of the background object. SOLUTION: A distance measuring device is composed of a pair of left and a right line sensor 2a and 2b to output light patterns 3a and 3b complying with the brightness distribution on an object photographed 6 observed from different view fields having parallax, selecting means 10b to select the central area or peripheral area of the line sensors 2a and 2b, calculating means 10a which compares the outputs of the sensors for each area selected by the selecting means 10b and calculates the relative position difference based upon the parallax of the object 6, and a CPU 10 which compares the calculating results from the two areas, selects the one among the results having a greater relative position difference, and uses it as the focusing distance. |
