A drive disengagement system for a sliding gate operated automatically by a rack and pinion mechanism, designed to allow an owner to gain access to his property in the event of a power failure preventing operation of the drive motor (3), consists of a mechanical cable which is connected to a sliding component of the drive motor support. When the cable is pulled, e.g. by a handle (14) inside a lockable housing (11) set in a masonry gate post (10), the sliding component of the motor support moves relative to a fixed component, causing the motor to slide sideways and drop, so that its pinion (5) is disengaged from the rack (4) and the gate can be opened manually. |
