PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suitably generate driving signals for test and halftone images respectively by controlling the light quantity of a light source when the driving signal has a maximum or minimum pulse width, in accordance with the output of a monitoring means. SOLUTION: A mode signal for specifying a driving signal generating mode to a full lighting and turning off mode of a first mode or a PWM mode of a second mode, in accordance with the fact that a printed image is the test or halftone image is inputted to a driving signal generator 121 from a controller part 110. In other words, the monitoring means detects/outputs the density of an electrostatic latent image or image formed on a photoreceptor, based on the driving signal. The light quantity of the light source when the driving signal is completely turned on in the first mode is controlled according to the output of the monitoring means. Then, the light quantities of the light source when the driving signal has the maximum and minimum pulse widths in the second mode are controlled according to the output of the monitoring means. |
