PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wave separating method for separating a wave into a progressive wave and a regressive wave which is significant as an analyzing method for capturing the wave complicatedly propagating through a trolley line or the like in detail. SOLUTION: A wave separating method (a time difference method) is a method for separating a wave (y) (x, t) propagating in the longitudinal direction (x-direction) of a long body accompanied with displacement in a vertical direction to the (x) direction into a progressive wave and a regressive wave. At first, acceleration is measured at two points x1 and x2 with an intervalΔx sufficiently shorter than the wavelength of the wave. Then, the wave is separated into a progressive wave f(x1 -ct) and a regressive wave g(x1 +ct) by f(x1 -ct)=1/2Δt y(x1 , t+Δt)-y(x2 , t)}dt and g(x1 +ct)=-1/2Δt y(x1 , t-Δt)-y(x2 , t)}dt when (c): a wave propagating speed andΔt=Δx/c.
