The present invention refers to a process for the continuous preparation of methylmercaptan by means of the catalytic reaction of methanol and sulphured hydrogen. The invention includes essential improvements in the preparation of the gaseous edduct mixture as well as the advantage of the heat reaction and the heat content of the gas product mixture. The energy necessary for the evaporation of the methanol is partially obtained by means of the advantage of the heat compression for the sulphured hydrogen gas as well as by the heat content of the product gases which leave the reactor. The heat reaction used to heat the gaseous edduct mixture to the reaction temperature by the help of an external gas heater.
