PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation device using small-sized display on which characters and symbols are displayed upon being enlarged or representative characters and symbols are displayed so that the user can easily read the characters such as the name of place or the symbols for any facility while the vehicle is stopped. SOLUTION: Road map data read by a CD drive 3 from a map-proprietary disk D by reference to the current position of a car is accommodated in a RAM under control of a memory control means 1a. Among the road map data, backdrop map data representing the backdrop is transferred to the RAM, and when judgement that the car is stopped is passed by a running speed sensing means 1g, the character/symbol data is transferred to the RAM upon being enlarged. The transferred pieces of data are synthesized on/in the map and RAM. Finally the synthesized backdrop map and characters/symbols are transferred to a VRAM to build a picture for navigation and displayed by a plotting microprocessor as an output control means 1e. |
