The package (1), designed to contain and protect a fragile article (2) while being able to withstand a certain load, is made from a number of layers (3, 4, 5, 6) of a suitable material, such as cardboard or corrugated cardboard. Some of the layers have apertures (7) in them to form a cavity (9) to receive the article while allowing it to be removed easily. The package is made from a single panel of material which is folded into the required number of layers, joined by their edges, and one of its outer layers (6) has a window (8) in it through which the article contained in the package is visible.
