The oven has a heating chamber (2) defined by side (3A,b), rear (4) and base (5) walls and a cover (6). The heating chamber is open at its front and subdivided horizontally and partially by a cooking plate (8) to define an oven (9) with a cooking chamber (10) on which is a smoke deflector (11). The smoke deflector can be placed between the cooking chamber and the cover and is mounted to be detachably retained (12) in the heating chamber to allow modification of the path followed by the flames and smoke to reach the cover.
