Telecommunication terminal connection method especially to data network, e.g. Internet

The method severs on existing physical connection between the terminal and the network, as soon as it ceases to transmit data within a first predetermined interval, or when such severance is effected manually at the user interface. When the physical connection is severed a logical connection is maintained between the terminal and the network, either indefinitely or until a second predetermined interval has elapsed. While this logical connection persists a physical connection can be re-established as soon as there are data to be transmitted.
