Method for laying wires

The method involves forming coils from straight wire delivered from a driven wire mill in a wire-laying head (10) through a rotating wire-laying pipe (1) and collecting the coil in a chamber or fanning the coil on a transport device before collecting it in a chamber. After the end of the wire has left the last rolling frame of the wire mill, ring segments (5,5') are swivelled into the outlet of the wire-laying head after a time delay. The ring segments form a closed ring with a ring segment (4) that is flanged on the wire-laying head. The closed ring extends axially along the wire-laying head. The closed ring prevents the end windings from coming out of the wire-laying head for a length of time, and thereby increases the size of these windings through increased wire speed. After the wire end has left the driver, the ring segments are swivelled away from the wire-laying head so that the end windings can emerge unhindered from the wire-laying head.
