<p>Liquid-crystal compounds represented by general formula (1) and a liquid-crystal composition containing any of the compounds, wherein R1 represents C¿1-15? alkyl; rings A?1, A2, and A3¿ each independently represents trans-1,4-cyclohexylene, trans-1,4-silacyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene, etc.; X?1, X2, and X3¿ each independently represents -(CH¿2?)4-, -(CH2)3-O-, -O(CH2)3-, or a single bond; Y?1¿ represents hydrogen or C¿1-15? alkyl; and m and n each is 0 or 1. The compounds have a liquid-crystal phase in a wide temperature range, a low viscosity, and a large negative value of Δ⊂, are easily miscible with other liquid-crystal materials, and are useful as a component of a nematic liquid-crystal composition suitable for use in both the TFT and IPS display systems.</p> |
