[Also in Division C6] Effervescent tablets and powders which dissolve in water with the liberation of carbon dioxide comprise at least one alkali metal and/ or alkaline earth metal carbonate and/or bicarbonate and anhydrous sodium dihydrogen citrate, the tablets and powders being substantially free of citric acid and the di- and trisodium salts thereof. The tablets and powders may comprise sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate or calcium carbonate and additionally at least one water-soluble or suspendible pharmaceutical compound, such as vitamins (e.g. vitamin C), and analgesics (e.g. acetyl salicyclic acid), which can be administered orally. The effervescent tablets may be prepared by separately moist granulating the components, with the addition of a binding agent, drying and mixing the granulates obtained and then pressing into tablets, or by mixing together the finely powdered components with the addition of a lubricating agent such as polyethylene glycol, polyvinylpyrrolidone or gelatine, and then tabletting. |
