The compressor has a cylindrical body (1) with a cylindrical bore (6), a valve plate (2) mounted on one end of the cylindrical body, a cylinder head (3) containing a high pressure chamber (12) and a low pressure chamber (12) and a coolant inlet (15) and outlet (16) in the valve plate between a bore and the low and high pressure chambers respectively. Suction and outlet valves (21,17) open or close the inlets and outlets. Two sealing elements (41,42) ensure pressure-tight sealing between the cylinder body and valve plate and between the valve plate and the cylinder head respectively. The suction valve and first sealing element form a single plate-shaped valve element, whose opposite sides are both coated with an elastic material. The outlet valve and second sealing element form a similar single valve element, with opposite sides coated with elastic material.
