Illuminated sports field with superimposed markings for several ball games

This illuminated sports field for various ball games has a variety of superimposed markings for the different sports. In this new idea, the illumination can be varied or changed such that for each sport, the respective markings become predominantly visible. Preferably the illumination selectively emphasises markings of one colour. This is achieved by filters in front of the lights selectively absorbing or transmitting colours appropriate to the markings. The markings are fluorescent and the exciting wavelength can be changed. The fluorescence is resonant. Polarisation may be employed.
