Self-supporting gas generation plant supplying gas engine from biomass fuel

The method is for self-supporting gasification of solid combustibles, especially biomass, using air or oxygen, and steam. The gas produced is consumed in a gas engine. The control system operates in real time and covers the entire system including gas generator, scrubber and gas engine. An original feature is the use of the steam content in the raw gas as a process control variable for the gasification process; this is adjusted as a function of the gas properties at the gas engine. Hence steam content in the oxidant gas is calculated and set with in relationship to the maximum possible shaft power. A largely constant steam content is maintained in the raw gas. Also claimed is the equipment to carry out the method. Salient features include the radial flow injector used in the recycling process.
