A cemented carbide comprising WC grains (1) and at least one compound (3) which is selected among carbides, nitrides and carbonitrides of Group IVa, Va and VIa elements, and solid solutions of them and is present in at least part of the WC grains. The compound (3) is selected among carbides, nitrides and carbonitrides of Ti, Zr, Hf and W, and solid solutions of them, and the mean particle diameter thereof is less than 0.3 mu m.
